    Description: Top-notch, exciting, engaging, and just plain fun, this class is designed for teachers in all stages of their career who are interested in bringing the excitement of science into the classroom.  The investigations used in the course are Core specific and designed for teachers to implement inquiry investigations from the course in their own classrooms.  Dates Sept 11-12, sept 25-26, Oct 9-10, Oct 23-24

    This content teaching course will introduce you to the basics of biology including ecology, cell structure and function, anatomy, physiology, evolution, and classification. You will also identify ways to incorporate NGSS science practices  and crosscutting concepts into the science classroom while studying life science.

    The course emphasizes content and teaching practices that can be used in the classroom. Lesson plan creation is part of the course. Emphasis is on best practices used to teach this content in your classroom.

    This Online Endorsement Course meets the Utah State Science Endorsement Course Requirements for:

    • 6-8 (Middle School)
    • Biology 1

    Upon successful completion, the participants will receive 3.0 Southern Utah University Credits.

    This course will introduce you to the basics of physics learning about motion, forces, gravity, energy, momentum, collisions, heat transfer, thermodynamics, and fluid dynamics. Physics is the study of everything around you, forming the basis of all science. As you begin to understand and analyze basic principles of physics, you will gain a greater understanding of the world around you and other areas of science.

    This Online Endorsement Course meets the Utah State Science Endorsement Course Requirements for:

    • Physics 1
    • 6-8 Middle School

    This is a content and classroom teaching course. Lesson plan creation is part of the course. Emphasis is on best practices used to teach this content in your classroom.

    As part of the application for all secondary science endorsements, it is a requirement that all Utah science teachers complete a Lab Safety Certification Course. This certification process helps to assure that all of our science teachers are knowledgeable about the practices necessary for safe lab experiences for students and themselves.

    This course is a four-week online class.

    This Lab Safety Certification Online Course meets the Safety Certification requirement for ALL Utah State Science Endorsements.

    Upon successful completion, the participants will receive 1.0 Utah State Board of Education (USBE) Credit that will post to the State Professional Learning MIDAS Education System. This course is not refundable under the new USBE endorsement program.

    This is an integrated introduction to the earth system stressing the geological, biological, chemical, and physical interactions among the atmosphere, ocean, and solid earth. The course applies basic scientific and mathematical concepts to explain the history and behavior of the earth system. The course includes discussions of topics that are relevant to a wide range of scientists and engineers, such as the physical basis of climate change, weather, and oceanography. 

    The course emphasizes content and pedagogy teaching practices that can be used in the classroom. Lesson plan creations are part of this course.

    Biochemistry is the study of the chemical processes occurring in living organisms. What types of molecules make up organisms? How these molecules classified and what are their functions? How do organisms obtain and use energy? What metabolic processes occur in the body? This course will address these topics.

    Our place in space and how we have come to this understanding, are the foundations on which this course is built.  We will explore the tools and laws of nature astronomers use to construct our model and understanding of the cosmos—both its structure and components.  From this informed foundation, we will address the fundamental question of are we alone within this context of our place in space.

    The 2022 Annual UtSTA conference is a wonderful opportunity for professional development, lesson plan ideas, networking, and inspiration, and so much more.

    This year our keynote speaker is Dr. Mike Heithaus from Florida International University! In addition to the keynote, there will be 13 different themed strands throughout the day and 4 different breakout session for each to help you with your teaching curriculum with ideas, demos, lessons, etc. We hope you can join us for a great day that will help you and your students better appreciate science and science education.

      Energy in the classroom is brought to you in a collaboration between the Governors Office of Energy Development and the Utah Science Teachers Association. This course is for Secondary Teachers 7-8th grade, Earth & Space Science, Physics & Chemistry that want to incorporate energy lessons into their classroom. The teachers will have access to over 35 lessons, each of which is directly tied to the SEEd standards and will be presented in the 3D pedagogy. Teachers will receive $195.00 worth of materials and $120 will be paid to their school to go toward the cost of a substitute. Lunch will be provided.
