June 1–5, 2026 — Upper San Juan River (Sand Hill to Mexican Hat)
Limited to 25 participants — Register quickly!

Embark on a four-day, immersive rafting expedition through one of the most spectacular natural laboratories in the world! This professional development course takes you deep into the heart of southern Utah’s canyonlands—where every bend of the river reveals new stories of ancient seas, migrating dunes, desert ecosystems, and the rich biodiversity of the San Juan corridor.

By day, we’ll navigate the river, explore side canyons, identify native flora and fauna, uncover fossil-rich rock layers, and practice field-based instructional strategies you can bring directly back to your classroom. By night, we’ll camp under some of the darkest skies in the country, enjoy catered meals, and participate in fireside discussions that connect Earth systems, evolution, ecology, and Utah’s geologic history.

All food, camping gear, and rafting equipment are provided—you bring your curiosity, sense of adventure, and passion for teaching.

This is the most engaging way to learn biology and geology in the field, and space is extremely limited.

Cost is $1500, non reimbursable, plus SUU credit of $69, reimbursable to contracted teachers.
